The railroad switch known as Aiken became the town of Melville. To avoid confusion with the town of Millville, the name was changed in 1908 to Burtner and again to Delta in 1911. The Chronicle's June 29, 1911, issue stated: "On Friday next we will all mourn the death of poor old Burtner, with all of her sorrows and troubles, but on the morning of July 1st you will see us all celebrating the name of our new town, Delta."
We extend our thanks to the City of Delta, Utah, for their generous funding; to the Delta City Library for spearheading the project; and to the Millard County Chronicle-Progress for the loan of the original newspapers for scanning.
