The strong support of the Democratic Party for the Logan Journal caused a group of Republicans to create the Logan Nation in April 1890. By 1902, the Nation had abandoned its support of the Republican Party, becoming politically independent. This incensed the Republican leadership, which started the Logan Republican on September 10, 1902. The Republican's adversary, the Logan Journal, still represented the Democratic Party, and the two newspapers were at odds from 1902-1924. On April 1, 1924 the Logan Journal brought an end to the conflict by purchasing the plant and subscription list of the Republican, leaving Logan with a single newspaper, the Logan Journal, for a time.
